You asked! What is a keto-friendly drink that won’t break the bank or burst your gut, will promote wellness, and will boost your immune system?
1. Filtered Water. I use water from a Berkey Filter, which filters out chlorine, fluoride, and a number of chemicals, organisms, and more. Look at #4 on alternative ways to drink regular water.
2. Coffee. You can really amp up the flavor and drinking experience by blending MCT or coconut oil and Kerrygold butter into the mix. Add a dash of cinnamon and you’ve got a blood-sugar curbing, brain-empowering, energy-boosting drink! If you’re really needing the sugar, add stevia, erythritol, or monk fruit extract; sweet taste without worry!
3. Tea. Green tea has a high source of antioxidants and can be good. Add a splash of lemon for some acidity. Herbal teas are great to add to your daily routine: chamomile, lemongrass, peppermint, hibiscus, dandelion, … Organic is best.
4. Miss soda, but wanting to drink cleaner? Well.. what about sparkling water?
You can do a million things with this! Add lemon, lime, or grapefruit juice. Allow the water to sit for a few hours with fruit (strawberries, blueberries, peaches, etc) or vegetables (cucumber) or herbs (rosemary, spearmint, basil, etc)! You can even add some essential oils (orange, lemon, mint) to further enhance the flavor. You are basically creating your own soda at home!
5. Consider Bone Broth.
This is a powerhouse of flavor and essential minerals and electrolytes. You can buy this at the store, but making it at home is much cheaper!
6. Another thought might be Vegetable Juices. This you can make at home if you have a juicer or you can purchase it at the store. Be careful with your consumption of this, however. Although vegetables are lower in sugar, juicing them separates them from the fiber, which is important for slow absorption rather than a sugar spike.
