Do you ever get hunger and thirst pangs simultaneously, but you don’t know which to reach for first? If you drink too much water right before your meal, you’ll dilute your stomach acid. Though, eating (with the likelihood of it having salt or sugar) will only further activate feelings of thirst.
What is a person to do? How about targeting both thirst and hunger, without a crazy cooking and clean-up kitchen fiasco?
How? Smoothies.
Sometimes all I want is to hydrate myself, but also to address my ever-growling stomach, whose palate has a bit of a sweet tooth. This recipe is not exactly fully keto or paleo, but quick adjustments can make it so (see below).
Ingredients
- 1.5 cans full fat coconut milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (sub coconut cream for paleo)
- 1 banana (perhaps half a banana for keto) and/or strawberries
- 1/4 cup almonds (I toasted mine to give it more depth of flavor)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- dash cinnamon
- Ice (optional)
- Optional add-ins: cacao powder or nibs, strawberries, nutmeg, cloves, ginger
Directions
- Mix all ingredients in a blender.
- Add ice until mixture is to your desired “frostiness”.
- Share with friends, save for later, or drink in one sitting and sink into a state of creamy, coco-nutty satisfaction.
